形態特徵

Culms 6-20 m tall, 4-10 cm in diam.; glaucous when young, internodes 20-60 cm long; nodes prominent; 1-3 mm high, with many-branches; walls 0.5-1.2 cm thick.
Sheath of culm deciduous, coriaceous, densely brown-pubescent above outside; sheaths-auricles convex with tufts of brown bristles; ligule of sheath narrow, entire; blade of sheath triangular on lower culm, glabrous or sparsely pubescent outside, with brown hairs inside. Leaves 5-13, linear-lanceolate, 10-25 cm long, 1.2-3 cm broad, dark green above, pubescent beneath, veins 6-8, parallel, densely spinulose-scabrous along one margin, sparsely so along other; sheath of leaf 4-6 cm long, minutely pubescent above outside.
Spikelets in clusters of 3-9 at nodes of leafless branches, 3-4 cm long, 6-8 mm in diam.; 4-12 flowered; glumes 2, ovate, 2-4.5 mm long, 1.5-2 mm wide; lemma similar to glume but larger and wider, 9 mm long, 6 mm wide, glabrous, veins 18-20; palea 8.5 mm long, veins 5 between keels, 3 between each keel and edge, densely hairy on keels; gynoecium 7.5 mm long; ovary obovate, 2 mm long, 1 mm in diam.; minutely hairy, with 3 vascular strands seen in cross section; style very short with 3 feathery stigmas; stamens 6, anthers 4.5 mm long, with 2 pores at apex,; lodicules 3, obovate, 2 mm long, densely hairy on upper margins.

台灣 : Commonly planted for a windbreak around farmhouses and between fields throughout the Island.
